Rotary is a voluntary organization.
Each of the voluntary organizations has a specific goal. One of the major reasons behind the creation of the Rotary Club of Silk City is to further expand the reach of Rotary in the public mind. It is also an initiative to unite several non-Rotarian people and get them involved in various social projects and stand by the common people.
Not only that, but also to bring back the old tradition of silk fiber, one of the most profitable crops of Malda district. Once upon a time, the district’s crops was widely appreciated not only in Bengal or India but also all over the world. To bring back that lost glory of Malda district, we started trying to form a club with old and new Rotarians from 2021 and by March of that year, Rotary International approved it. Then the campaign to reach our desired goal began.
Club Title Project :
We, 22 members, came together to carry out this work and started working together. We founded our club and started training the silk farmers in Sujapur of Malda district. Our club member Rotarian Dr. Kamal Krishna Das (MSc, PhD on Zoology) helped us in this regard in every way as trainer, supervisor or guide of farmers whenever it necessary. Every year we conduct three such trainings across the district. The aim is to make the silk farmers aware and help them get motivated again in silk farming. We will continue this program for more two years, because our primary goal is to inform all the silk farmers about all the merits and demerits related to silk farming through 15 training camps in the first five years, after which we will monitor the infrastructural development of this farming. And in this way, we will set an example in implementing the club title project in the whole country and spread the initiative of Rotary International for the socio-economic development of the area among the people. This project has already been awarded the title of "Best Community Development Project" of RID3240 for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 Rotary years.
Membership :
Our strategic planning for membership growth is,
1) To fill all classifications as quickly as possible.
2) To nominate prominent individuals from the society as club members.
3) Offering a chance to observe our Rotary programs for at least six months before admitting new members.
4) To add two new members every year.
Needless to say, we have so far been 100 percent successful in this goal.
Rotary Foundation :
We are committed to enriching the Rotary Foundation:
1) Since the establishment of the club, we have been receiving the honor of EREY Club every year.
2) Since the establishment of the club, we have been receiving the honor of 100% PHF Club every year.
3) There are three Major Donors in our club. Out of which one is Level-Three and the other two are Level-One. In the future, we dream that all members can become Major Donors.
Assistances to District :
For the past two years, we have hosted District Level Membership and Literacy Seminars. Every year, we try to support the District Governor and his team in every way possible, and we will continue to do so in the future.
Special Achievement.....
We have undertaken a project of a "WASH" in the current Rotary year, and that is to install hand washing basins in 12 rural schools in 12 months. As soon as the "WASH RAG" authorities informed Rtn Ian Rumbles, he appreciated it and asked us to send the documents in this regard. We send all the informations and the 1st of November from America was published as No. 1 in the international newsletter of "WASH RAG". This is our great success. We have added the mail documents as attachment with this article.
